Féile na nDéise is Dungarvan Town's annual May Bank Holiday celebration of traditional Irish music and storytelling. The first Féile na nDéise following on the successful first Oireachtas na Gaeilge in 1993. Our Comhaltas branch played a pivotal role in establishing the first Féile. The first two meetings were held in Michéal Marrinan's house.
The highlight of the weekend is always a re-enactment of some event from local history. Previous re-enactments have included the Riot which occured at the height of the famine, a storming of town by Vikings, the abduction of two young heiresses by an infamous "Abduction Club" bent on marriage and more.
In 2004, the story of the Connery Brothers was the highlight. Starting with Image 119 below, you can get some sense of the event. The actors are all locals. A number of members of our Comhaltas branch participated. |
